Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to cover for maternity leave within the Behcets service. We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and well-motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist to work in The Behcet's Centre of Excellence, Royal London Hospital (Barts Health NHS Trust). Ideally the nurse will have a background in of the following specialties General Medicine / Rheumatology / Immunology.
You will need to have full registration with the United Kingdom NMC GDC and have a minimum of four to five years' post-qualification experience. You will be experienced in a range of clinical procedures and will be an expert practitioner, managing our own clinic caseload of patients acting as their key care contact from diagnosis and throughout the patient's treatment pathway.
You will be expected to provide a high quality service providing specialist care and management to patients and expert training to nurses within the Behcet's department. This post requires a forward thinking; motivated and ambitious nurse whose contributions will be recognised by a dynamic cohesive multi-disciplinary team who are committed to the delivery of a high quality service.
You will be expected to be well-organised and have a flexible approach to work. You will need good interpersonal skills and will liaise with GPs, GDPs, Consultants and other health professionals.
Main duties of the job
The Barts Health Centre of Excellence for Behcet's disease will see 50% of people with the condition nationally, along with two additional centres in Liverpool and Birmingham. This post will be central to coordinating patient care for people with Behcet's disease that attend the London centre. The post holder will be responsible for the clinical care of patients and will link up different parts of the health and social care system for patients. They will also ensure that patients have sufficient clinical information and that they understand the information given to them by the clinic staff, including consultants. They will give support to patients outside of clinic times, being contactable by telephone or email and offering remote appointments (e.g. Skype/ MS TEAMS) where possible. In this way the CNS will be able to review stable patients and monitor the drugs pathway that patients are on. The post holder will have responsibility for administering biologics drugs to patients and for teaching patients to administer their own drugs in the case of homecare treatments such as Adulimumab or Etenercept. They will work closely with the Behcet's Service Lead and Senior Dental Nurse to provide a rounded package of support for patients, keeping them informed of the care and ensuring them rapid access to the service where clinically urgent cases have been identified and to work autonomously within nurse -led clinics.
