Job description

Job responsibilities

Barts Life Sciences (https://bartslifesciences.org/) is a joint programme between Barts Health NHS Trust and Queen Mary University of London to accelerate the adoption of innovation and new technology in the NHS. We have partnered with Barts Charity to establish a precision medicine programme over the next 4 years which will unleash the full research potential of NHS patient data while ensuring it is accessed responsibly, legally and ethically with patient engagement from the outset.

The Barts Life Sciences Precision Medicine Platform will use modern cloud technology to build a new Secure Data Environment (SDE) containing Barts Health patient data that complies with all necessary security and governance requirements. The SDE will need to be adaptable and usable for a range of different users supporting a range of analysis activities. We will look to source components of our SDE from other open-source work taking place in the community and make our own work publicly available.

The main duties of the cloud engineer include undertaking ongoing work to identify, investigate, implement and manage the cloud computing services and data management systems that comprise the SDE. In addition, the cloud engineer will plan, design and organize customizations of the SDE for researchers and clinicians within Barts Health NHS Trust and externally including QMUL, and other NHS Trusts and University researchers. Continually evaluating the suitability and integrating open-source software and services into the SDE as required while ensuring the security of patient data is also a major task for this role.

We are dedicated to being an outstanding place to work and will work with you to get the best experience. We know flexible working is not a one size fits all and will mean something different to everyone. We are inclusive, so if you are interested in flexible working, please speak to the recruiting manager.

The full job description provides an overview of the key tasks and responsibilities of the role, and the person specification outlines the qualifications, skills, experience, and knowledge required. For both documents, please view the attachment/s below.
