Applications are invited for the above post which will be based at the Barts Heart Centre, Barts Health NHS Trust.
The Interventional Cardiology department is one of the biggest in the UK and Europe. Interventional Cardiology, along with Electrophysiology makes up one of the three clinical directorates within the Barts Heart Centre at St Bartholomew's Hospital. The Barts Heart Centre is the biggest in the UK with its complement of 10 catherisation labs (5 of which are dedicated to Intervention) and 10 cardiothoracic theatres.
Main duties of the job
This appointment is for a substantive Consultant in Structural Heart Intervention, based at St Bartholomew's Hospital.
The appointee will join the existing team to provide specialist care to a population base of approximately 4 million patients and will also contribute to the departmental objectives based on excellence in clinical care, teaching and research.
The appointee will be expected to be an independent operator for diagnostic and interventional structural heart procedures including but not limited to Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation, Mitral and Tricuspid Interventions and Congenital Heart Interventions.

Supporting professional activities
This is a provisional timetable for the post-holder. However, depending on his/her sub-specialist interests, this could be made flexible in consultation with the Clinical Directors.
Teaching
The successful candidate will be eligible for Senior Lecturer status in the medical school on the understanding that he/she will participate in undergraduate teaching. There will also be a requirement for the clinical teaching of junior doctors and medical students at the Barts Heart Centre.
The Appointee
The appointee will be expected to fully contribute to audit, governance and training meetings, alongside administrative, teaching and research activities within the relevant Directorates. All consultants represent the department on various committees within the trust as well as taking responsibility for particular delegated areas according to their interests and availability. The Clinical Directors are responsible for delegating these responsibilities.
The appointee will have an overriding duty of care to patients and are expected to comply fully with best practice standards. The appointee will have a responsibility to comply with Trust policies for personal and patient safety and for prevention of healthcare-associated infection (HCAI); this includes a requirement for rigorous and consistent compliance with Trust policies for hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment and safe disposal of sharps. Knowledge, skills and behavior in the workplace should reflect this; at annual appraisal, you will be asked about application of practice measures known to be effective in reducing HCAI.
