Specialist Biomedical Scientist - Haematology and Blood Transfusion - Band 6
Exciting opportunities have arisen in Haematology & Blood Transfusion within the NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership (ESEL).
A complex transformation programme has commenced to develop a single, integrated pathology network between 7 hospital laboratories. The aspired 'hub and spoke' operating model is centred at The Royal London Hospital (RLH); a busy major trauma centre which hosts the London Air Ambulance, and connects to essential service laboratories supporting various clinical specialities at our partnered hospital sites.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for Specialist Biomedical Scientists to join either our hybrid (day & night shift) working patterns or permanent night working patterns.
We require a strong team player with a positive attitude to working in a flexible manner, committed to supporting the clinical services of the Trust and meeting the needs of our patients by participating in Agenda for Change shift systems.
The successful candidate is expected to work initially at the Royal London Hospital site but as the ESEL Pathology Partnership evolves, the primary location of work may be subject to change reflecting service demand.
The successful candidate MUST be registered with the HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist AND have completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio.Candidates who do not hold the completed IBMS Specialist Diploma may be considered for employment under an Annex 21 contract where a percentage of Specialist Band 6 BMS salary will apply. Training support will be provided for completion of the IBMS Specialist Diploma across a day and night working pattern.Compliance to the above criteria is mandatory and must be clearly recorded on application.

About us
The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership is an arms-length organisation providing pathology services to Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health.
The Pathology Partnership is based on well-established models for pathology networks, with the Royal London Hospital becoming the main hub laboratory for the network and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at all other Hospital sites.
Pathology is made up of the following services - Blood Sciences including Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry; Infectious Diseases including Microbiology and Virology; Cellular Pathology including Histopathology, non-gynae Cytology and mortuary services; Immunology; Cytogenetics and Molecular Haematology; Immunophenotyping; Clinical Transplantation and Retinoblastoma.
The 2020/21 total operating costs across the Partnership were c. £126m per annum with a workforce establishment of circa. 822 WTE. Experience

- At least 3 years post HCPC registration diagnostic experience in Haematology & Blood Transfusion.
- Experience with a computerised laboratory information system.
