Are you an experienced Tertiary Level Neonatal Nurse @ B7 or above, with previous experience in managing a NICU? If you're looking for a new challenge, come and join our dynamic, friendly, and expanding Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as our new ITU/HDU matron.
This is a new role and with it comes a huge challenge which will result in being Matron of an excellent ITU/HDU service within the NICU who will be responsible for the 13 ITU and 12 HDU beds. You will be responsible for tackling staffing, overseeing our anticipated expansion (currently 39 beds) and implementing a philosophy of care which will make this part of the NICU outstanding for care. You will work closely with the new matron for SCBU/TC/NCOT within the unit, whilst promoting and working towards this agenda which should result ultimately in quicker, safer, and earlier discharges home for London and North Essex's sickest and most vulnerable babies. This role will also look at the admission and Estimated discharge date for repatriation, transfer to Paediatric wards or home.
The Matron for the ITU/HDU will be responsible for the operational and clinical management of these services within the NICU. You will lead the nursing team within the service, whilst working in conjunction with the Matron for SCBU/TC/NCOT, NTS Matron,the Children's Division Matrons & Senior Nurses. There will also be a close working relationship between the medical teams, GM and the ADoN for Children's.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will have overall day to day clinical responsibility for the Neonatal Nursing and Support Team within the ITU & HDU on NICU @ The Royal London Hospital. They will provide professional, clinical, and managerial leadership to the staff and will be a recognised specialist within the field of Neonates.
- The post holder will have responsibility for the quality of care, cleanliness and infection prevention & control within the clinical areas and environment. They will provide professional advice and support at both Unit, Speciality and Divisional levels.
- The post holder will provide evidence-based care pathways to enable the implementation of individualised patient care; this is to include assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for babies in these areas, whilst monitoring progress via the Royal London Hospital sites Performance Reviews and data dashboards.
- The post holder will achieve clinical excellence for this area and work towards achieving our expansion goals of 45 beds which includes expansion of the ITU and HDU bed base.
- The post has changed within the unit and therefore the postholder will need an element of managing change when implementing and working within this role. The post holder will work closely with the SCBU/HDU/NCOT matron, Clinical Lead for NICU, the maternity post-natal team and Adom, towards achieving excellence within the NICU
