Job summary

St Bartholomew's and the Royal London Hospitals form one of the largest PFI hospital schemes in the UK. Completed in 2016, they form part of Barts Health NHS Trust. We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Head of Projects, to be responsible for delivering all capital projects within the PFI hospitals and within the PFI project agreement, representing the client end user role.

As a capital projects team, we lead on the delivery of clinical and non-clinical refurbishment and new build projects across the Trust. We do this through providing support and guidance to key project stakeholders in delivering their requirements for strategic change across all sites and through all project stages, understanding their requirements and developing these into excellent built facilities for healthcare.

We seek to continuously improve our project delivery service through team experience, feedback, learning, and being open to innovative and effective solutions to project delivery, while providing exceptional customer focussed service and support.

The Head of Projects (PFI) will, using their knowledge, skills and experience take overall responsibility for the delivery of all project variations across all project stages at the Barts and the Royal London PFI hospitals. You will, supported by a capital project manager, engage with internal and external stakeholders in the delivery of the projects

Main duties of the job

You will ensure project governance systems are in place, provide financial and programme management monitoring and updates for all PFI projects. You will advise and support in funding and other approvals and be accountable for ensuring PFI projects are delivered to handover and operational completion with full capital finance, programme management and reporting.

You will ensure all project processes are followed, establish and oversee efficient project administrative systems aligning with all Trust policies and procedures and the PFI project agreement so that we can deliver a compliant and professional project delivery service for the Trust and which meets the Trust's obligations under the PFI contract.

  • Extensive post grad experience of the construction industry, part of which should be experience of managing large PFI construction programmes (on behalf of the Public sector) to a successful outcome.
  • Extensive experience at a senior management level of working collaboratively with other organisations to deliver successful outcomes.
