Are you an experienced Tertiary Level Neonatal Nurse @ B7 or above, with previous experience in managing a NICU? If you're looking for a new challenge, come and join our dynamic, friendly, and expanding Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as our new SCBU/TC/NCOT matron.
This is a new role and with it comes a huge challenge which will result in being Matron of an excellent service which is responsible for streamlining our 14 bed SCBU area, completely creating a workable and sustainable (nominated bed base of 12), Transitional Care Unit whilst promoting and working towards quicker, safer and earlier discharges home via the NCO team for London and North Essex's sickest and most vulnerable babies. This role will also incorporate working with on time discharges to the Children's wards and earlier repatriation.
The Matron for the SCBU/TC/NCOT will be responsible for the operational and clinical management of these services within the NICU. You will lead the nursing team within the service, whilst working in conjunction with the Matron for ITU/HDU, NTS matron and the Children's Division Matrons & Senior Nurses. There will also be a close working relationship between the medical teams, GM and the ADoN for Children's. This role will incorporate premature and sick babies admitted from wider London, (as well as local areas).
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will have overall day to day clinical responsibility for the SCBU, NCOT and eventual Transitional Care Neonatal Nursing and Support Team within the NICU. They will provide professional, clinical, and managerial leadership to the staff and will be a recognised specialist within the field of Neonates.
- This is an exciting new post due to the expansion of beds within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit which will eventually total 45 beds. The Development of SCBU, Transitional Care and the Neonatal Community Outreach team will be the focus of this role and consequently, the postholder will work closely with the Matron of the ITU & HDU areas and provide cross cover.
- The post holder will have responsibility for the quality of care, cleanliness and infection prevention & control within the clinical areas and environment. They will provide professional advice and support at both Unit, Speciality and Divisional levels.
- The post holder will provide evidence-based care pathways to enable the implementation of individualised patient care; this is to include assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for babies in this area, monitoring progress via the Royal London Hospital Sites Performance Reviews and data dashboards.
