Locum Consultant Cellular Pathologist / Histopathologist Full Time 10 PAAppointment in Breast Pathology

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic breast pathologist to work in a world class teaching hospital in London with a team of experienced andnationally recognised breast pathologists.

We are looking for a Consultant Cellular Pathologist/Histopathologist in theDepartment of Cellular Pathology at Barts Health NHS Trust based at thePathology & Pharmacy Building, Royal London Hospital. The job is to support increased clinical workload due to expansion of the Clinical Breast Unit as part of the Barts Breast Cancer Centre. You will be a full and active member of the breast team reporting both symptomatic and screening cases, participating in MDTs and other activities.

We are currently developing anational Breast Cancer Centre to deliver world class clinical care andtranslational research via Barts Cancer Institute, QMUL and the CRUKCancer Centre. Barts Health has also been selected by NHSE to become aCellular Pathology Genomics Centre.

We have implemented flexible working including remote working from home, enabling us to deliver an efficient service and maintain a healthy work-life balance, both of which are major priorities for our Department.

Main duties of the job

The job will be fixed term for one year in the first instance with the opportunity to apply for substantive posts within the department in 2024 for suitable candidates. This post is full time but those interested in part time work are also encouraged to apply. Applications from candidates who are also able to support reporting of non-oncological gynae pathology, skin pathology or GI pathology would be looked upon favourably, though this is not essential.

Applicants are required to hold full GMC registration with a licence to practice and to be on the GMC's Specialist Register.

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential

  • MBBS/MB ChB or equivalent
  • FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification
  • Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
  • Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT

Experience

  • Thorough and broad training and experience in Histopathology and in Cytopathology
  • Ability to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision

  • Attendance at management course

  • Knowledge of evidence-based practice Professional attitude towards work, reliability, good attendance record and tidy personal appearance
