An exciting opportunity for has arisen as Band 7 Acute Brain Injury Clinical Nurse Specialist to assist the current Lead Nurse for Acute Brain Injury provide care and support to the patients and families specifically following traumatic brain injury.
The Band 7 role is looking for someone to represent the Acute Brain Injury service across the hospital, in MDTs as well as family meetings and across the North East London and Essex Trauma Network or other 3rd sector organisations.
The role demands high level communication skills, as well as the ability to deal with high levels of distress often displayed by patients and families. The candidate should be passionate in wanting to support the unique traumatic brain injury patient group often with complex issues as an inpatient and as an outpatient.
The candidate should be organised and efficient, confident in managing a case load of patients with support from the Lead Nurse. They should to have specific experience of the traumatic brain injury patient pathway and a clear understanding of complex discharge planning involved.
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen to provide care and support to the patients and families following traumatic brain injury.
The Royal London Hospital is one of four major trauma Centres (MTCs) serving East London since 2010. It is home to the London air ambulance and is the most active of all the London MTCs, receiving approximately 10% of all major trauma in the UK. General trauma is covered by dedicated trauma surgeons and the Neuro-trauma service has been developed to complement this model. The work load amounts to over 400 admissions per year.
The Royal London Neurotrauma team is Consultant led and provides a holistic specialist approach to the treatment of patients who has sustained a traumatic brain injury. The multidisciplinary team works cohesively to deliver and promote effective care through patient centered approaches. The Neurotrauma team consists of 4 Neurosurgical consultants, 1 dedicated Senior Neurotrauma Fellow, and the Acute Brain Injury Clinical Nurse Specialist team.
The ideal candidate would be able to recognise the challenge faced by patients and their families following traumatic brain injury, guide families through the recovery process as well as act as an advocate for a complex and challenging patient group.
The candidate would enhance the delivery of the service, acting as a resource for other members of staff across the hospital from a wide range of disciplines.
