Job summary

The post holder will work as a member of the established security team to provide a security service, to the Trust, that is highly visible, service user focused and professional at all times with the overarching goals of creating a safe and crime free environment for all patients, staff, visitors, and the public.

Main duties of the job

Keyboard skills required

Occasional moderate lifting

Frequent requirement for controlled restraint for several short periods.

Patrolling of site and the ability to access all areas of the site regularly.

There is a frequent requirement for light physical effort for several long periods during a shift.

Emotional - Frequent exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances due to the nature of the role.

Frequent exposure to difficult customers, service users, often in emotional circumstances.

Working Conditions Frequent exposure to physical/verbal aggression

Requirement to use Visual Display Unit equipment continuously most days.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To patrol the grounds of the hospital, both internally and externally to protect the building and its contents from fire, theft or harm as directed by the Site Security Manager or named deputy

Act as the first line emergency response to any given security situation and respond in line with the defined security procedures and protocols.

Effectively control and monitor access to the Trust site and where necessary request and examine documentation and identification to ascertain authenticity to be on site

When required assist in the escorting and removal of individuals from site

Escort Trust staff and visitors to their destination within the Trusts site

Identify security defects, health and safety, maintenance and cleaning faults or requirements as part of the regular patrol duties and report to the appropriate Trust teams for resolution.

Ensure that all uniform and equipment issued is worn, clean and presentable, at all times, including stab vests, radios and body worn cameras.

Ensure that all documentation, logs, and records are completed appropriately and in line with the defined security procedures and protocols.

At all times carry out the duties of the role in a professional and compassionate manner when interacting with all Trust service users,

Undertake other reasonable security duties as directed by the Site Security Manager or named deputy such as key issuing, intruder alarm activations, bed watches, site evacuations, property escorts and site searches.

Monitor CCTV systems for the site and public areas, both internally and externally, in accordance with legislation and the Trusts defined security procedures and protocols.

To staff the site control room with the ability to monitor and respond, in line with the dedicated Trust Security procedures, all alarms, access control systems, CCTV cameras and communications systems.

Identifying any faults or issues with any of the systems within the control room ensuring that all are logged and reported immediately.

Ensure that all security and incident forms, Incident reports, DOR and DATIX reports, and emails are completed in line with the dedicated security protocols.

Receive and secure items of lost property and complete all necessary documentation.

Assist in the production, renewing, reprogramming, and issuing of access control cards (ID Cards) and peripherals for staff and contractors.

To report to the Site Security manager or named deputy on security and reception issues at the designated hospital site

Build effective working relationships with all hospital departments, other staff and external customers / service users to achieve co-operative working, performance compliance, and a common focus to achieve strategic objectives.

Have good knowledge of the Security and Reception performance indicators and quality standards.

Ensure that all Trust governance policies and followed

Ensure that matters for escalation (risks, issues, changes, incidents) are raised and escalated following the correct governance procedures.

Occasional requirement to cover reception duties, which may require accessing patient records.
