Job summary

Interested in engaging with adults in Tower Hamlets who are living with long term lung disease??

We are seeking a practitioner psychologist with a strong interest in clinical health psychology, to work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team in engaging with those people who may be most difficult to reach. The post involves working with individual patients in their homes and other community settings, supporting the well-established pulmonary rehabilitation programme and supporting the team in audit and service evaluation

Main duties of the job

You will be made very welcome and will join two complementary networks of colleagues; multi-disciplinary respiratory clinical colleagues and clinical health psychology colleagues.

Clinical Health Psychology is a professional network for psychologists who are embedded in many of the diverse physical health pathways across Barts Health NHS Trust, enabling the benefit of participation in sound professional support and supervision, to complement autonomous MDT working. Respiratory services across the Trust are established, growing and value a psychological approach.

Excellent communication skills, a strong commitment to multi-disciplinary team working, experience of working in physical health settings, plus the ability to work in a culturally diverse environment, are important requirements for this post.

This is a part time post at 22.5 hrs and flexible work arrangements are possible. There are opportunities within the Barts Health psychology service may be available to combine with this post,if you are seeking a full-time role. Job responsibilities

  • To be a member of the Adult Respiratory Care and Rehabilitation Team (ARCARE), providing comprehensive, multidisciplinary assessment and intervention for patients who have a chronic lung disease. To take the developmental lead, and be accountable for the direct provision of an autonomous and systematic specialist clinical psychology service. This will include providing specialised assessments; and a range of psychological interventions across the pathways; psycho-educational input on the Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PR) programme; and support to individuals, couples, carers and families as appropriate.
  • To provide specialised advice, support, teaching, and consultation to the physiotherapy, nursing and rehabilitation support staff in ARCARE, and to work collaboratively with them, enhancing their knowledge and skills in the psychological aspects of working with patients with long-term respiratory conditions. To offer consultation, training to patients, carers and other professional groups working in primary care, acute and community settings.
  • To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner, holding responsibility for a defined area and/or caseload within ARCARE. This may include the supervision of trainee psychologists or other students in a related field of study.
  • To be involved in formal and informal training such as clinical review sessions, peer review and in-service training.
  • To undertake evidence-based audit and/or research projects to further own and teams clinical practice.
  • To present findings to ARCARE and Clinical Health Psychology (CHP) colleagues and actively participate in implementing changes in service delivery
