Job summary

We are looking for a band 6 midwife to lead our Elective Caesarean list. The postholder will be a midwife practicing autonomously to attend women presenting for caesarean section and other pregnancy related theatre procedures. The postholder will be a prime care provider to mothers and their families when they present for elective caesarean sections/pregnancy related theatre procedures, working collaboratively with the labour ward and theatre team. They will work as a member of a team providing maternity care to women within the hospital. The postholder will take charge of the elective caesarean section list with continuing responsibility in the absence of the senior midwife. The postholder will have responsibility for coordinating the elective caesarean section list. This will include checking investigation results are ready before the start of the list and coordinating with ELCS Leads and Labour Ward Co-ordinators to facilitate the effective running of the theatre list. The postholder will have responsibility for ongoing review of the planned elective activity, pre-assessment lists and working collaboratively with the Maternity department and reallocating women as indicated by the activity in the Unit and clinical indication for elective caesarean section.

We provide Maternity Services to approximately 5400 women a year and accommodate our women in very modern up to date facilitates. We have a level 3 Neonatal unit situated within the hospital as well as excellent facilities in Fetal Medicine. We are baby friendly hospital with fully accreditation by UNICEF Baby friendly initiatives since 2012. The maternity staff are also skilled and able to support parents who chose to formula feed their babies in a sensitive and effective manner to ensure informed decision.
