Job summary
We are looking for an Occupational Therapist who is interested in working with children under 5years old, with Social Communication Difference, their parents and other professionals. The role is to deliver assessment, interventions and training that promote children's participation in every day activities. We would love to hear from you if you have a solid understanding of the OT process and are motivated, creative, enthusiastic and keen to learn.
This post is part of a new multidisciplinary pathway we are developing for children with Social Communication Differences and are working closely with colleagues in local Children's Centres. Our vision is to provide care for children and families that is personalized, occupation performance driven and outcomes focused. We base our intervention on current evidence and contemporary theory.
Previous Paediatric experience is not essential and you will be working closely with senior therapists to help support you in this role. We provide excellent and regular supervision and training, opportunities to participate in service improvement projects and develop staff leadership skills. We are a well established, friendly and forward thinking Team. The Trust supports agile and flexible working arrangements.
Main duties of the job
The Community Children's Therapies team provides physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy for children and young people up to the age of 19 in Tower Hamlets. Most of the children and young people we work with have developmental difficulties which often are linked to a medical diagnosis e.g. cerebral palsy or autism.
Our services are delivered in clinics, schools, nursery settings, children and family centres and homes. As well as working at a 'specialist' level where we accept referrals for individual children and young people to our service, we also work with partner organisations like schools and children and family centres to enable other professionals to support families at a 'targeted' level. Building the capacity of other professionals and parents to support children and young people with developmental difficulties is a key priority for our team.
The funding for this post has come from an additional funding package to provide intervention for children aged 3 to 5 years old who require Occupational Therapy. Our aim is to develop our targeted offer in Children and Family Centres, in particular for children with social communication differences (SCD).
The post holder will provide assessment and therapy interventions for children under five years of age with a variety of speech language and communication needs referred to the Early Years Team.
