ACCESS is the London regional adult critical care transfer service committed to ensuring the secure, reliable, compassionate, and proficient transfer of critically ill patients throughout the capital. Our operations are carried out in collaboration with the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust (LAS), the London integrated commissioning boards and associated critical care networks to provide a transfer service for critically ill patients throughout London between 0800-2200, 365 days a year, with the aim of transitioning to a 24-hour service within the next 12-months.
Transfer teams are currently operational within the four geographical sectors of London, operating under the oversight of Bart's Health as the host trust. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work in any of the four geographical sectors, based on their individual requirements, objectives, and preferences.The ACCESS Team include one transfer doctor, one transfer practitioner, two LAS crew, all led by two Duty Consultants who provide close support and expertise each day.
Main duties of the job
- Join the dedicated, multi-disciplinary transfer team as the transfer doctor to complete clinical, capacity and repatriation moves for critically unwell patients.
- Take clinical leadership of the team and undertake safe inter-hospital transfers with distant supervision (after an appropriate period of supervision and sign-off)
- Ensure thorough and accurate record keeping during transfers
- Perform effective clinical handover when handing over to receiving team
- Carry out appropriate equipment checks at the beginning and end of the day
- Attend daily pan-London briefings
- Carry out clinical transfers to the level appropriate to training
- Proactively engage in education, governance and QI activities on project days
- Have an active role in service development and training
