An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) team at The Royal London Hospital

We are looking for someone who is motivated and a team player to join our expanding team and services to ensure we can provide safe and compassionate care to patients in the right place at the right time within our Same Day Emergency Care unit (SDEC).

SDEC at the Royal London is a busy unit that is currently operational Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am to 8pm with the occasional weekend and bank holiday opening hours depending on demand. The unit remains open 24/7 and is staffed by the Emergency Department out of hours.

On Mondays to Fridays, we run Medical, Surgical and Emergency care patient pathways where consultations, evaluations and procedures are carried out. We are constantly working with different specialities within the hospital to develop specialist pathways for our patients, improving the patient experience as well as the flow through our busy Emergency Department.

Within your role as staff nurse you will assist in providing care and coordinating all patient services that run through this department and ensuring that patient experience, safety and clinical quality are maintained. The role requires working closely with different services internally and externally to Barts Health that provide same day emergency care to their patient groups. You require the skills and abilities to provide high quality clinical care in a fast paced environment.

Main duties of the job

  • Will be part of the development of ambulatory care services throughout the trust.

  • Will assist in coordinating the combined list of scheduled ambulatory patients as well as the A&E ambulatory pathway.

  • To advocate and expedite the journey for suitable A&E ambulatory patients by monitoring flow through A&E and pulling appropriate patients into the ambulatory care service.

  • Assist and coordinate the running of specialty clinics that run out of this area, this includes plastics, ENT and MAX FAX clinic

  • Coordinate nurse led clinics, managing and treating a variety of conditions such as DVT, cellulites, interim anticoagulation.

  • Outpatient Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT), inclusive of once daily intravenous antibiotics
