Whipps Cross is the centre of excellence for frailty. We are looking for an experienced B6 or B7 OT who can co-lead the integrated team of OTs, PTs & support workers in Orthopaedics. Orthopaedics is part of the Surgical Division which also includes Critical Care, Surgery & Amputees under one Clinical Lead. The successful candidate will work closely with the other B7 therapists in the Surgical Division to further develop therapy provision & standards.
Applicants will need to hold current HCPC registration, have broad clinical skills including recent acute orthopaedic experience, have worked in the NHS or similar health service at senior level. There is a strong commitment to staff training & service improvement with support for leadership development.
The therapy service is a rostered service to ensure 7-day provision covered between 8am - 6pm. The postholder would be rostered for weekend working but no more frequently than 1 in 4 weekends with time off in lieu during the week.

Main duties of the job
To play a major and specialist role in the advanced assessment, treatment, clinical management and discharge planning of patients admitted to the orthopaedic wards determining clinical diagnosis, functional deficits, treatment programs and discharge planning.
To take a proactive, positive risk taking approach with advanced risk assessment skills in discharge planning and support the less experienced therapists to do the same.
To have advanced therapeutic skills to manage patients appropriately and to impart this knowledge to less experienced therapists.
To complete assessment, management and discharge plans for patients across the speciality and support the clinical leads in providing training and support for other therapy staff and the MDT.
To be dynamic in developing efficient and effective occupational therapy working processes to assist in producing a fully multi-professional team approach and to lead on the development of the team in line with team objectives.
To work with the clinical lead OT / PT to develop the service to best meet changing health and social care agendas in line with the focus on frailty.
The post holder is responsible for the occupational therapy team and jointly responsible for the assistant staff within orthopaedics.
