The ultrasound departments at Barts Health NHS Trust are now able to offer clinical placement positions for Trainee Sonographers in conjunction with academic CASE accredited postgraduate Diploma or Certificate courses for 2023/2024.
We are looking for highly motivated, hardworking healthcare professionals to train on secondment alongside our experienced sonography teams across Barts Health NHS Trust. Your main base site will be at one of the following: Whipps Cross Hospital, Newham University Hospital or The Royal London Hospital with rotation into the NEL Ultrasound Training Academy on the Whipps Cross Hospital site expected as part of your training placement. Applicants must therefore be flexible and willing to travel. With these positions, we are offering funded academic and clinical training in obstetric, gynaecological, general abdominal / small parts and MSK ultrasound depending upon the academic programme route chosen and requirements of the clinical host site.
It is anticipated that 6 new training positions will be offered to coincide with a Consortium for the Accreditation of Sonographer Education (CASE) accredited HEI qualification which are recognised worldwide as well as the British Medical Ultrasound Society and the Society of Radiographers:
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team in Imaging, liaising with those involved to ensure the appropriate imaging, reporting and management of the patient is provided when and where necessary. They will maintain a high professional and technical standard of ultrasound imaging. The trainee sonographer will undertake clinical work within established quality standards of practice, adhering to Ultrasound Guidelines Such as BMUS, RCOG, RCR and NICE guidelines for clinical excellence. The post-holder will work as an assistant practitioner alongside a CASE qualified sonographer in the delivery of all ultrasound imaging, reporting and management of the patient within the department protocols. The post-holder will assist the sonographer in overseeing the day-to-day workload, ensuring resources allocated to the area or modality are utilised effectively. They will promote patient advocacy and communicate effectively with other health care professionals regarding patient care and progress. All trainees are expected to rotate through the NEL Ultrasound Training Academy based at Whipps Cross Hospital. The postholder will liaise closely with the practice educator team and their allocated supervisor to ensure academic targets are met and are linked with clinical progress to ensure timely qualification.
