Job summary

The Estates Hard FM Team is responsible for the day to day repairs, PPM and operational testing for a wide range of building services and equipment located in the Trust.

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and flexible estates supervisor to join our multi-Skilled Estates team at Mile End Hospital site providing operational maintenance services throughout the Trust and its associated properties and sites.

You will be a positive team member with a can do attitude accompanied with a recognised understanding of the latest HTM's (Heath Technical Memorandums), conversant with up to date ACOP's, BS & EN standards & SFG20 Standard Maintenance Specifications as they affect the management of Building Services throughout a frequently complex Health Care environment.

Essentially be able to demonstrate a clear understanding in the management of statutory compliance as they affect NHS building premises. Areas of compliance would typically be in water hygiene, asbestos and fire management, Medical Gases and Air Conditioning systems. Being an AP (Authorised Person) in any of these specialist groups will be an advantage.

Ideally you will have proven specialist skills in house maintenance and external contractor management. In particular you will have excellent communicative skills that can articulate issues and problems to senior management in a meaningful way both to clinical and non-clinical members ofstaff.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the supervision of in-house multi skilled maintenance teams and contracted staff in the day to day running of the Estates service delivery within the Mile End Hospital and or Royal London Hospital Retained Estate within Barts Health Estates & Facilities Services.

Under direction of the Estates Manager supervise all buildings, plant and equipment are serviced and maintained throughout Mile End Hospital and or Royal London Hospital Retained Estate in accordance with Statutory & Mandatory requirements in a timely manner. In Including Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and Reactive Maintenance (RM), minor works, major overhauls and replacement. Inaddition, the Estates Supervisor will be required to be a self-starter who is able to work on his/her own initiative.

Qualifications/Knowledge

Essential

  • Good Literacy & numeracy skills.
  • To have served a recognised apprenticeship in a building services, mechanical or electrical engineering discipline or have equivalent experience.
  • A good working knowledge of Health & Safety principles within engineering and building systems.
  • Knowledge of statutory compliance to relevant Estates and Engineering systems and building elements.

Desirable

  • Specialist training in medical gasses, water systems, legionella/pseudomonas control, gas safety, refrigeration systems, BMS, Air Conditioning & Electrical Safety.

Experience

Essential

  • In depth experience of healthcare building services, maintenance management of multi skilled teams across multiple sites.
  • Detailed working knowledge of preventative and reactive maintenance.
  • Experience of allocating planned and reactive work to the in-house team and contractors. Proven ability to performance manage both work streams.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of information systems for the management of maintenance activity (Concept CAFM System).
  • Experience of successfully managing a budget and identifying cost savings .Ensuring timely provision of accurate reporting on activity and spend.
  • Understanding Standing Financial Instructions in relation to procurement, management and commissioning of external contracting services.
