Applications from experienced, enthusiastic, and dynamic clinicians are invited for a Paediatric & Neonatal Clinical Fellow SHO level post at Newham University Hospital (NUH)
The successful candidate will work in the Women and Children's division at NUH, which is part of the Barts Health NHS Trust; one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK.
To be considered for the post, you must have full GMC Registration and it is desirable to hold MRCPCH or equivalent. You should have appropriate training and experience in general paediatrics and neonatology.
The Paediatric rainbow centre is a very busy department and looks after deprived and young paediatric population. It is a 21 bedded Paediatrics ward which includes 7 cubicles, two bedded well equipped HDU unit. It also has 6 bedded day care ward for minor day surgery for children over 3 years of age. The department also has 6 bedded observational unit and has 23 beds including 2 intensive, 4 HDU care beds.
The Level II Neonatal unit cares for babies born at more than 27 weeks. We work collaboratively as part of a network with the tertiary unit at the Royal London Hospital. Applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to manage their workload in an organised manner as well as work well under pressure. The post will be based at Newham University Hospital which provides acute general paediatrics and neonatal services to one of Britain's most diverse, fastest growing, and youngest populations.
Main duties of the job
This is a Trust Clinical Fellow SHO level post suitable for doctors who wish to pursue career in Paediatrics and in neonatal care. Trust is committed to supporting the post holder in developing a career in Paediatrics. This post is full time fixed term appointment for one year -Maternity cover .and is trust grade.
Day Time Clinical Duties
Ward Round, providing cover to ambulatory unit, participating in outpatient clinics, and A&E, Providing cover to labor ward and postnatal ward, all with consultant supervision on a consultant of-the- week system.

On call Commitment
Full shift system, 1:9 in neonatology and 1:9 in general paediatrics, providing cover to NICU, delivery suit, and postnatal ward or paediatric ward and A& E
There is a separate Registrar rota for Paediatric and Neonatal at all levels including Consultants, Registrar and SHOs.
Work pattern:
Full Shift night (12 hours + handover); Long day (12 hours + handover); short day (8.30 am till 17.00 hours).

- The Department of Neonatology
The Department is newly purpose-built unit at Newham Hospital. It is working within North East neonatal network. Network comprises two level three, two level two and one level one neonatal unit. This unit is one of the busiest level two neonatal unit. Department has 6 intensive care/high dependency cots and 20 special care cots including 3 room in rooms. Unit has physical capacity of 29 cots.
- The Department of Paediatrics
The department is one of the busiest in and around London. More than 30,000 Paediatric patients were seen in accident and emergency department in 2011.
Department has two 6 bedded bays, 7 cubicles and 2 high dependency beds which provides NCPAP to children with respiratory insufficiency. One cubicle is designated for oncology patients. Observational unit has 6 bedded bays for short stay. Also, 6 bedded day care unit used for pre- and post-surgical assessment of ENT and dental patients, also used for blood transfusion to patients suffering with sickle cell and thalassemia.
- Out-patient Department
The Childrens Outpatient Department is adjacent to Paediatric ward. There are Paediatric Clinics held 5 days of the week including neonatal follow up clinics. Outreach specialty clinics are also being held in the department.
- Facilities
There are comprehensive diagnostics including MRI/CT and PACS with digital imaging. A new IT system has been installed which will provide an advanced Patient Administration System, electronic patient records and interfaces with pathology.
Essential laboratory facilities are available at Royal London Hospital.
