Job summary
Our service is the largest of three dedicated HIV services offered by NHS hospital trusts in North East London, also providing referral services for patients who may have more complicated health problems requiring specialist and collaborative input. Patients are referred to us via a variety of services including sexual health services, other hospital departments and GPs if they are diagnosed with an HIV infection. Many patients also self-refer to enter our care, whether they are transferring from within or outside of the UK.
The service at the Grahame Hayton Unit provides high quality, comprehensive services for people living with HIV with the aim of empowerment, allowing people to live well. The service has a strong focus on interdisciplinary teamwork, where many patients are co-managed via a wider multidisciplinary team. Patients do not require a GP referral, nor do they need to live locally. Care is provided to all patients living with HIV who wishes to attend our services.
We are looking for a dedicated and highly motivated individual to join our friendly and hardworking nursing team who would like a challenge within the field of HIV. This opportunity will provide the selected individual with the opportunity to develop their competencies as a band 5, leading to band 6 at the end of 8-12 months (dependent on previous experience).
Main duties of the job
To work supported within the multidisciplinary team to provide continuing care to patients attending for outpatient care or day-care.
To supervise and teach junior members of staff and learners as required, and maintain own personal development with support.
To be a safe, knowledgeable and effective practitioner at all times.
To provide high quality nursing care to patients and their families, in accordance with agreed policies.
To work towards competencies to progress to a band 6 Charge Nurse at the end of the competency assessment and progression phase. This will be at 8-12 months dependentupon experience and meeting the required competencies.
