Job summary
The Royal London Hospital adult critical care unit (ACCU) is a busy 44 bed unit comprising 22 ITU and 22 HDU beds in a spacious and well equipped new building. We are seeking to employ a band 5 technologist to join our technologist's team to support the ACCU nursing and clinical teams.
Experience of working within the NHS is essential for this post.
The team is also responsible for supporting paediatric and neonatal critical care areas.
You will be taught how to perform daily maintenance checks, quality assurance and general troubleshooting on a range of point of care test equipment. In addition you will set up, calibrate and maintain medical devices such as ventilators, Hemofiltration filters, patient monitors, Haemodynamic monitors and a range of other medical equipment.
Working hours are 37.5 hours per week on a rotational basis, which will include weekends. You will also learn how to be proficient in teaching nursing and medical staff in the most appropriate use of medical equipment and be able to work in a pressurised environment responding quickly to the requests for technical assistance.
There may be opportunities to be on rotation between different Critical care units within the trust.
Main duties of the job
Works as part of a team of Critical Care Technologists providing 7 day per week service to the ACCU and PCCU at the Royal London Hospital.
The post holder has responsibility for providing technical support for the Critical Care Units, for developing skills in medical technology, for maintaining an accurate equipment inventory and participating in education programmes to ensure high level Clinical Governance.
The post holder will over the course of time be able to work unsupervised once deemed capable by the lead and senior technologists.
There is a possibility of a rotation between different Critical care areas within the trust.
