We are currently seeking an enthusiastic Ophthalmologist to take up the position of Medical Retina Fellow supporting the Injection service. This position offers clinical experience and training opportunities in contemporary techniques related to Medical Retina. The fellowship also provides surgical access with a regular protected cataract list, with the possibility of additional lists. This offers the opportunity to gain experience with more complex cases. The post holder will be expected to take part in research projects. Continuing education, professional development and audit opportunities will be available.
Main duties of the job
The Eye Treatment Centre (Whipps Cross University Hospital)
The Eye Treatment Centre is a dedicated facility for the delivery of Ophthalmology Services under one roof. It accommodates ophthalmic outpatients, a day surgery suite with twin operating theatres and integrated orthoptic and optometric services. There is a laser suite for YAG, Argon and Diode (micro pulse), diagnostic facilities for FFA, ICG, SD OCT (Heidelberg x 2 and Zeiss Cirrus), corneal topography and visual fields.
Computers are available at every workstation in the Outpatient Department and Medisoft electronic patient records have been in use since June 2011 with an upgrade to MediSight underway . The diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and cataract modules of Medisoft are used exclusively for recording clinical episodes, procedures and investigations. The glaucoma module of Medisoft is also available.
There are currently 9 whole time and 2 part time Consultants, based at Whipps. The department also has 6 fellows and 4 specialist trainees and is well supported by allied health care professionals in extended clinical roles.
There is an Eye casualty from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday, plus a network of primary care clinics. The Eye Casualty is run by four Emergency Nurse Practitioners, triage nurses and a team of fellows, trainees, and optometrists
