Job summary
We have a rare and exciting opportunity for a cancer nurse looking to develop their experience by working in The Newham Cancer Day Ward. This is a small unit aligned to the St Bartholomew's Chemo service. So, the Newham team can access the training and development opportunities provided across the Trust. We have a strong and diverse nursing team which can support the development of juniors. All our new nurses are supported by the whole team, to achieve objectives and competencies, including chemotherapy competencies. Our nurses are supported to work autonomously, as required in day care units. All our chemo trained nurses are offered specialist band 6 rates for bank work within the cancer service. Our nurses work in small teams to deliver high quality care to our patients who may receive chemo and immunotherapies, as well as a range of supportive treatments, such as transfusions, hormone injections and CVC line care.
Our nurses work 4shifts per week -( 3 x 10 hours and 1 x 7.5-hour shift).
The unit is open Tuesday -Friday. We are able to offer posts to both full time and part time staff.

Main duties of the job
To provide the highest standard of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualized, holistic patient care in conjunction with the inter-professional team.
As a proficient practitioner in SACT( Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy) care, the post holder acts as a professional role model and clinical teacher. He / she will also provide effective mentorship and supervision, participating in the education and training of nursing and non-nursing staff.
He/she also takes charge of the Day Care Unit as required, liaising closely with the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse with continuing responsibility. The post holder will be asked to perform the Clinic Nurse Role at times - coordinating all the schedules, prescriptions, blood tests and confirmations in advance, so that treatment production /dispensary occurs in a timely manner.
