Job summary
These are 6 Clinical Fellow posts (ST3 and above or post CCT) .The Trust is committed to supporting the post holder in developing their career within Obstetrics and Gynaecology. This post is initially for 6 months and extendable for 1 year, fixed term contract.
Experience available to potential candidates include one the following 6 areas:
- High risk maternal medicine
- Fetal Medicine
- Oncology
- Urogynaecology
- Colposcopy
- Early Pregnancy and Ambulatory Gynaecology
Newham University Hospital is a busy East London unit, that serves a population of approximately 350,000.
Newham is an area of high deprivation (with regards to employment, education, health and housing). The borough has the UK's lowest proportion of White British people (16.7%), and 42.4 % of residents were born overseas (London average 26.4%). Newham has the lowest proportion of people with English as their main language of all local authority areas in England and Wales. It has one of the highest rates of households in temporary accommodation, and one of the highest population turnover rates in London; with large numbers of people moving into the borough transiently. It is also believed to have the have the highest number of asylum seekers and refugees of any London borough. In 2016 only 56.7% of Newham's women were employed. This is reflected in the women served by the the O+G department.
Main duties of the job
The Postholder will have duties similar to Specialist Registrar year ST3-ST7 working under the guidance of the obstetrics and Gynaecology Consultant.
The postholder will be covering a variable range of duties in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The Postholder will be a key member of the medical team responsible for the treatment and care of women within our antenatal/postnatal wards, the Delivery Suite, Maternity Assessment Unit, Triage and our 22 bedded inpatient gynaecology ward and Accident and Emergency. In addition, it is expected that he/she will undertake outpatient clinics and operating lists as scheduled.
