Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Barts Health for a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist within the Severe and Difficult Asthma outpatient service. The post is a fixed term maternity cover.

This role is suitable for an existing band 7 or an experienced band 6 who is able to work independently, looking to further develop skills in upper airway/laryngeal dysfunction and has a passion for quality improvement. Skills in voice, acute respiratory and/or critical care with good understanding of laryngeal function are required.

This post offers an exciting opportunity to continue to develop the speech and language therapy outpatient service for patients with Severe Asthma. The post holder will be responsible for planning, coordinating, delivering and evaluating the SLT service in close collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues within the service.

This will include taking a lead role in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients within the specialty who may have highly complex needs, determine clinical diagnosis and SLT treatment indicated.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be embedded within the Multidisciplinary team of the North Central and East London Regional Service Asthma Service as the sole SLT. The MDT is comprised of respiratory and ENT doctors, clinical nurse specialists, physiotherapists, pharmacists, a dietitian and a clinical psychologist.

The post also sits within the wider therapies team with links to the Acute SLT team at SBH and the Bart's Health Head & Neck and Voice team.
