Job summary

Director of Strategic Planning - Band 9

An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the newly created Barts Health strategic planning function.

The role involves designing and leading the Group's approach to strategic planning, working in concert with multi-professional teams across the full span of the Group's functions and Hospital Sites as well as in conjunction with local system partners, particularly the Acute Provider Collaborative in North East London. The poster holder will lead the development of the annual Group Operational plan, reflecting national and local priorities, and seeking to anchor that within multi-year planning horizons.

It also includes working closely with Strategy team colleagues and wider to agree the Group's organisational objectives and strategy as well as overseeing key aspects of Group governance such as the newly established Executive level Strategy and Planning Board.

Main duties of the job

About you:

  • You will be a talented senior leader with experience leading a business planning process at directorate or organisational level as well as experience of roles with accountability for budget, people management, communications and programme governance.
  • You will have exceptional influencing and negotiating skills with the ability to broker consensus across senior stakeholders at Board level and across organisations.
  • You will possess excellent knowledge of the political and organisational structures that define the relationship between Government policy and NHS delivery.
  • You will have experience of leading or managing significant and complex programmes of work with multiple senior stakeholders spanning the breadth of business objectives both within and across organisations.
  • You will have the ability to think and act strategically, be politically astute and set clear sense of direction in a constantly changing and politically challenging environment.

Knowledge & Training

Essential

  • A Masters degree or equivalent qualification or experience in a relevant subject
  • Evidence of further professional academic or management studies
  • Evidence of specific training in key management areas i.e. leadership and management, finance, human resources, business case development, governance, project management.
  • Knowledge of organisational policies and procedures including planning and performance management frameworks
  • Excellent knowledge of the political and organisational structures that define the relationship between Government policy and NHS delivery

Desirable

  • MSP Practitioner OR PRINCE2 Practitioner OR equivalent (or working towards)
