Westham Ward has 20 beds for Gynaecology, surgical and medical outliers. We also have an alongside ambulatory unit that has 4 beds. We are a small friendly team who are respected and committed to providing a high standard of care and are proud to have been nominated for the Barts Health Heroes award in 2022.
We aim to deliver holistic care for our patients and those important to them and therefore work closely alongside members of the multidisciplinary team to provide high quality, person-centered care, that is evidence-based.
We actively encourage and support staff with expanding their knowledge base. As a teaching hospital we are able to provide extensive in-house training. Access to formal courses of education at local universities is also available to facilitate professional development.
You will be an approachable nurse who connects with staff and patients at all levels. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about the provision of high quality women centered care for every one of our patients. Excellent communication skills, flexible approach/attitude and a commitment to improve the service are vital.
The role involves providing direct nursing care in the areas of gynaecology and general female surgery. This includes termination services and administration of medication to this end and after-care services. It can also include caring for women undergoing all aspects of gynaecological care including miscarriages and bleeding.
Main duties of the job
As a Registered Nurse the post holder is expected to consistently act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct. The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of a consistently high standard of care to meet patient needs and Unit objectives.
The post holder must demonstrate clinical expertise in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care using an holistic approach.
The post holder must possess fundamental management and facilitation skills in order to coordinate and supervise the activity of Unit staff, promote multi-disciplinary working and foster a supportive, learning environment.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a genuine enthusiasm for caring for Gynaecology patients are a requirement. You may be required to rotate and work in the hospital setting as required for the Gynae service.
This role requires a full time Staff Nurse who is compassionate, flexible, dedicated, dynamic and highly motivated. As well as working besides a supportive team to deliver individualised patient care based on best practice the post holder is expected to be proactive and use own initiative.
