Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen at St Bartholomew's Hospital for a Band 5 nurse. We are looking for an innovative, forward thinking individual to join our dynamic Coronary Care Unit nursing team.
Our Coronary Care Unit (CCU) provides the ideal opportunity for exceptional nurses who are looking to further develop their cardiac and leadership skills, and the perfect opportunity for those looking to start a career in cardiology. We are seeking nurses who are compassionate, bright, and motivated to deliver high quality care to our very acute and complex group of patients.
The CCU nursing team are hardworking and passionate about cardiology nursing. Our large team of band 5 nurses are supported by 16 band 6 junior sisters and junior charge nurses who provide direct mentorship, three band 7 Senior Sisters / Senior Charge Nurses, a cardiology matron, clinical nurse specialists and enthusiastic cardiology consultants. We are very fortunate to have our own education charge nurse who mentors and supports all staff in their development.
Main duties of the job
You will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, have an understanding of acute nursing and be a team player. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential. We are committed to professional development and provide in-house and post graduate training at our partner universities, in addition to our own cardiology specific competencies that enable our nurses to demonstrate professional progression.

Our CCU is split into two zones with a bed base of 40 beds. The East zone provides acute care to patients admitted through our arrythmia pathway, complex electrophysiology, grown up congenital heart disease and heart failure. Our West zone is home to one of the busiest Heart Attack Centres in the UK and provides care to patients admitted through our emergency heart attack pathway. Our nursing teams rotate through both zones, and the successful candidate will gain experience caring for patients requiring Level 2 critical care support including CPAP, inotropic and intra-aortic balloon pump therapy.
