We are looking to appoint a dynamic and skilled substance misuse/addiction nurse with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and willing to develop nursing leadership, with an ability to positively influence clinical pathways and an understanding of the issues and challenges associated with delivering patient care.

You must be enthusiastic and passionate about substance misuse/addiction and delivering high standards of patient centred care and be a professional role model for the areas of responsibility; ensuring patients receive a positive experience in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team.

This service operates 7 days a week 08:00-18:00hrs.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will use their sound understanding of Alcohol screening tools to assist in the identification of those drinking at 'increasing',' higher risk' and dependent levels of Alcohol use. Through assessment, the use of agreed clinical tools, clinical knowledge and experience, they will also be able to identify those 'at risk' of Alcohol withdrawal to ensure best management.

The Alcohol Nurse Specialist will work in Emergency Department, clinics and wards and with other hospital teams to offer advice and treatment for patients on Alcohol related issues its associated complexities and withdrawal management.

The successful candidate will have a sound understanding of the management of Alcohol withdrawal including complicated withdrawal, providing guidance and expertise on clinical management to other staff members both in practice and through training.

Undertaking comprehensive holistic assessment, the post holder will assess risk and plan care working in partnership with the wider multi-disciplinary team, both inward and outward facing to contribute to safe effective discharge. The co-ordination of referrals for on-going treatment and care is a key part of this role and an element of complex case management post discharge will be required.
