Job summary

This is a fantastic opportunity to join our thriving NHS Trust, working in the Joint Research Management Office, partnered with Queen Mary University of London, as part of the Barts Health R&D Finance team.

The post holder will work as part of the JRMO Barts Health R&D Finance team, responsible for all aspects of the North Thames Clinical Research Network (LCRN) and Research Capability Funding (RCF) finance administration, working with the various research teams/budget holders in the Trust and Queen Mary University (Academic Partner).

The post holder will support the LCRN Financial Accountant, R&D Deputy Senior Finance Manager and ultimately the R&D Director, in managing the allocation and distribution of annual LCRN and RCF income, providing periodic financial information and reports, to ensure that it is in line with the funder's terms and conditions.

The post holder will support the R&D Senior Finance Manager with any relating LCRN and RCF finance audits and ensuring that the Trust complies with funder's due diligence requirements.

The post holder will also be responsible for ESR administrative duties, supporting the R&D Deputy Senior Finance Manager by completing ESR change forms for all R&D staff. They will manage and reconcile monthly payroll reports across R&D to identify and correct payroll mismatches and variances.

Main duties of the job

LCRN & RCF

  • To maintain strong and current working knowledge of NHS Financial Regulations and Trust finance procedures relating to allocation and distribution of LCRN and RCF income.
  • To proactively lead on all aspects of financial administration for LCRN and RCF
  • To prepare and complete all statutory financial returns, ensuring that work is completed in line with financial timescales and legal requirements, interpreting policy and guidance where necessary.
  • To ensure that all LCRN and RCF transactions are recorded in a timely manner and in line with funders guidelines.
  • To ensure accurate and timely financial information reports are sent to both budget holders and R&D Finance colleagues; and demonstrate transparency and financial accountability.
  • To provide advice and guidance to researchers (budget holders) about their research project budgets, amendments to budgetary values and the virement of funds between budgets, including the resolution of financial issues.
  • To develop and implement financial systems for forecasting, monitoring and administering LCRN and RCF income and expenditure.
  • To support with LCRN and RCF both internal and external audits

R&D Payroll

  • To complete ESR change forms for all R&D staff.
  • To ensure sufficient funds are available before approving R&D posts on ESR.
  • Manage monthly payroll reports across R&D and resolve any pay mismatches and variances for journal corrections and recoding.

  • Responsible for the budgetary management of LCRN and RCF funding allocation.
  • Responsible for the timely production and distribution of high quality and accurate financial information reports for budget holders, JRMO Senior Managers and both external and internal stakeholders.
  • To organise and prioritise their own workloads to meet set deadlines.
  • To monitor their own outputs and ensure that all LCRN and RCF funding allocations are maintained and up to date.
  • To develop and implement standard operating procedures in relation to the financial management of LCRN and RCF awarded to Barts Health.
