Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist - Special Interest in Maternal Diabetes
Applications from experienced, enthusiastic and dynamic Consultant Obstetricians and Gynaecologists are invited for this substantive position based at Newham University Hospital (NUH) with Special interests in Maternal Diabetes.
The successful candidate will work in the Women and Children's division at NUH which is part of Barts Health NHS Trust; one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK. This substantive full-time position is for a maximum of ten programmed activities [10 PAs].
The successful candidate will join an established team of 20 Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and complement all departmental services. The post holders will be supported by a multi-disciplinary team of midwives, nurses and consultant colleagues.
To be considered for the post, you must be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of achieving a CCT (or equivalent) at the date of interview. The positions require appropriate training and experience in antenatal and intrapartum care with evidence of completion of relevant ATSMs, as well as relevant skills especially care of diabetic women in pregnancy. Candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to manage their work load in an organised manner as well as work well under pressure.

- To be integral to providing acute obstetrics and gynaecology services and participating in 'Hot Week' and On-call rota of 1:10.
- To take an active role in developing evidence-based and optimal clinical management of maternal diabetes, clinical governance initiatives, participate in multidisciplinary audit, clinical effectiveness initiatives and risk management.
- To have regard at all times to the clinical and quality standards set out in the Patients' Charter and the local purchasers' contracts.
- To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with General Practitioners, community services, and all healthcare agencies.
- To maintain and promote team and multi-disciplinary work with the specialties, working closely and regularly with the consultant medical staff.
- To provide leadership in teaching and clinical research.
- To be up to date in statutory and mandatory training programs.
- To maintain 'Good Medical Practice' and be in 'good standing' with the RCOG.

The duties of the post holder may also involve working on other sites of Barts NHS Trust depending on clinical needs and clinical interests. The post will support the implementation of the EWTD standards and compliance with working hours and as part of the Trusts response to achieving NHS targets including the 18-week referral to treatment target and the A&E waiting targets.
The department is proactively promoting clinical governance, and the appointee should be able to demonstrate skills in audit, risk management and evidence-based medicine. The appointee will also be our governance team to support the development of robust management of clinical incidents and complaints, as well as involvement in clinical audit, teaching and supervision of junior doctors. The appointee will work with the junior doctors rota coordinator to ensure all clinical activities are appropriately covered.
The post holder will practice at an advanced level demonstrating a high level of autonomy and clinical decision-making. He/she will work as a highly specialised member of the inter-professional team to ensure that the clinical needs of patients and families are met at all times. Activities involving interaction with the various local communities would be especially welcomed.
