Job summary

The Pharmacy Department at Barts Health covers a population of 2.5 million. We provide medicines management and medicines optimisation services from our four hospital sites across the City of London and East London.

We are looking for a motivated and dynamic pharmacist with clinical experience in intestinal failure to join our Pharmacy team at the Royal London hospital.

You will work closely with Intestinal failure/nutrition team and the wider multidisciplinary team on a wide range of medicines optimisation matters, and to ensure standardisation of medicine policies and procedures wherever appropriate.

You will be mainly based at Royal London Hospital. Royal London Hospital is an accredited intestinal failure centre. We are part of the Central London Intestinal Failure Partnership (CLIP). CLIP is a collaboration between Barts Health, Guy's and St Thomas', and University College London Hospitals. We are three of the largest NHS trusts in the country serving a patient population of over 5 million people, working together with over 15 hospitals across London.The purpose of the CLIP is to facilitate the provision of the best care and experience for all intestinal failure patients within North Central,East, and South East London.

The post holder will also be expected to contribute to the research agenda working with staff across the Pharmacy department and student placements.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will carry out the full range of duties as the Highly Specialist Pharmacist in Intestinal Failure(IF) & Nutrition to deliver patient focused, quality care, based primarily at the Royal London Hospital.

To promote the responsible, safe and cost-effective prescribing of medicines within IF and nutrition to optimise clinical outcomes, minimise adverse reactions and improve medicines safety. The post holder will be supporting the Lead Pharmacist in leading a team of staff in the delivery of high quality clinical pharmacy.

The post holder will be expected to support the Lead Pharmacist in managing the professional, clinical and technical input of pharmacy into the IF and nutrition service at Royal London Hospital.

The job description is not intended to be exhaustive and it is likely that duties may be altered from time to time in the light of changing circumstances and after consultation with the post-holder. The post holder might be required to work across the Trust at any time throughout the duration of his/her contract, which may entail travel and working at a different hospital site.
