An opportunity has arisen for a Theatre Support Assistant to join the Operating Theatres, Main Theatre Other Specialities Department at Russells Hall Hospital.
The Theatre Support Assistant will bean integral member of the theatre team working under the direct supervision of a registered practitioner, and be responsiblefor providing care to patients as delegated by the registered practitioner.
They will contribute to the maintenance of the theatre environment and quality initiatives to enhance patient care, and will ensure that their practice adheres to policies, procedures, and competencies.
Maths and English qualification - GCSE A-D, or Grade 4-9, or Functional Skills Level 1 are essential for this position.
QCF/NVQ Level 2 in Operating Theatre Practice or equivalent qualification/relevant experienceis desirable.
You will need to be able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and communicate effectively with members of the team, patients and relatives. A commitment to undertake in-house training as appropriate is a requirement.
Main duties of the job
Care Dutieso Welcome and orientate patients, carers, relatives, and other visitors to theatre department always demonstrating care and compassion, including the collection and identification of patients.o Assist with making the patient comfortable within the Anaesthetic room.o Assist the registered practitioner with pre-operative patient preparation.o Report any visible observed changes in the patient's physical or psychological needs to the registered practitioner.o Provide support to the registered practitioner, and where appropriate, other members of the theatre clinical team as required.o Participate with emergencies i.e. cardiac arrest, patients with a rapidly deteriorating condition, within scope of practice and competence.
Communicationo Communicate effectively and maintain good relationships with patients and other healthcare practitioners.o Undertake duties as directed by the registered practitioner in relation to all verbal and written communications, ensuring messages and communications are passed to appropriate team members in a timely manner.
General Theatre Dutieso Liaise with sterile services to ensure surgical instrumentation is available for surgical procedures.o Under the direction of a registered practitioner, organise the supply and maintenance of materials and theatre equipment, ensuring they are placed in the correct area and present no hazards to staff, patients, or visitors.
