The closing date is 01 December 2025
Job summary
We are delighted to invite applications for several Specialty Registrar-level (Trust Grade) positions in Emergency Medicine at Russell's Hall Hospital, part of The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust. These exciting roles are part of a strategic expansion of our middle-grade workforce aimed at enhancing the quality and resilience of care in our busy and dynamic Emergency Department.
These posts are ideally suited to doctors with substantial Emergency Medicine experience who are either confident in delivering senior clinical decision-making or are ready to step into such a role with appropriate supervision and support. You will be working as part of a supportive and experienced multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality, safe, and timely care across all areas of the Emergency Department.
Applicants must hold full GMC registration with a licence to practise, have relevant Emergency Medicine experience at ST3+ or equivalent level, and be proficient in the full range of Emergency Department procedures appropriate to registrar level. Certification in ATLS (or ETC), ALS, and APLS (or EPALS) is mandatory. Candidates should demonstrate strong clinical acumen, communication, and leadership skills.
We offer a friendly and progressive working environment with excellent consultant support, opportunities for involvement in teaching, simulation, quality improvement, and audit, as well as access to study leave and professional development courses.
Main duties of the job
Actively assess and manage patients attending the department across the range of common emergency medicine presentations. This includes the resuscitation and assessment of seriously ill and injured patients, including paediatrics.
Provide senior clinical oversight and supervision to doctors in training, including senior review of cases and support with decision-making and escalation.
Lead and coordinate the management of critically unwell or trauma patients, particularly during overnight periods. You will be expected to work as the Emergency Physician in Charge (EPIC) after midnight, alongside other registrars and the night team, with distant consultant supervision available after midnight.
Provide timely and appropriate referral of patients requiring inpatient care and seek specialist advice from inpatient teams and consultants when required.
Support patient flow through the Emergency Department and contribute to the delivery of the national four-hour standard and other relevant quality indicators.
Maintain high standards of clinical documentation, risk assessment, and senior decision-making. You will be expected to demonstrate a sound and structured approach to the investigation and management of undifferentiated presentations.
Undertake clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, and service development projects under consultant supervision. You will also be encouraged to contribute to local clinical governance and safety initiatives.
