Job summary
The post holder is required to assist the Occupational Health (OH) Team Lead and Senior Occupational Health Advisor to provide an onsite specialist Occupational Health Service to all Trust Staff and when relevant to associated external customers.
The post holder will be responsible for assisting with health surveillance, pre-employment screening, immediate and follow up care after sharps / splash injuries, advice to staff on relevant immunisations; health promotion and other work-related health advice that may be required.
Main duties of the job
This role requires a pro-active relationship with other departments within the Trust. The post holder will promote Occupational Health Policies and encourage adherence to Occupational Health procedures, e.g., needlestick policies and safe working practices.
Main Duties:
- To assist in the provision of a confidential and ethical service to all Trust employees.
- To help provide a comprehensive pre-employment health assessment service, assessing the fitness for employment of all potential employees of the Trust and when required, those of external contracts.
- To recognise where referral is required because of health surveillance results and escalate for follow up care as appropriate.
- In association with other trained occupational health staff, to carry out assessments ofemployees' fitness to work.
- To provide all necessary immunisations and tests as directed by the OH Consultant and OH Team lead/Service Lead and to ensure that staff are recalled to the department as necessary.

- To ensure that accurate staff health data is entered onto the Occupational Healthcomputerised database (CORITY).
- To carry out venepuncture as needed
- To assess needlestick injuries and splash incidents and under guidance from the Senior OH Advisor to provide immediate and follow up care
- To advise the OH Team Lead and Occupational Health Administrator of any necessary material resources required for the department
- Responsible for stock check of vaccines and daily fridge temperature checks
- To carry out workstation assessments where medically indicated, and make recommendations for any changes in working practice or equipment purchase
- If required by the OH Team Lead/Service Lead to represent the department at meetings both within the Trust and externally
- To work with other Occupational Health staff and the Infection Control Department to provide the best possible care in the event of an outbreak of an infectious disease or other major health alert.
- To be competent in core vaccination schedules and PGDs for Hepatitis B, MMR, Pertusis, TB, Prep requirement and HIV exposure risk awareness.
