PPE Operative

Job summary

To undertake all operational work associated with the successful distribution of goods received through the Receipts and Distribution Point in accordance with the Procurement Department's procedures and policies and the Trust's Procurement Strategy. In carrying out these tasks operatives must regularly work unsupervised to deliver an optimum level of service to user departments.

Please note - interviews for this post will be taking place 10th December 2025.

Main duties of the job

The role requires the picking, packing, ordering, delivering and stock rotation of PPE stocked items. It also involves Manual Handling including lifting boxes, pushing cages and moving pallets including the use of manual and electrical equipment. Good customer service skills including the use of telephone, emails and face to face with all levels of staff. Working with MS Office modules such as Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams with good Admin skills (e.g. electronic filing). Following all required Health & Safety requirements including keeping a clean & tidy work area, cages folded and stored. Team work to complete required Receipts & Delivery requirements of the service.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

1. Receive calls for PPE items on the dedicated phone line, taking accurate records of delivery requests

2. Deliver PPE throughout the Trust, primarily using roll cages and carts to support transit

3. Manage proactive deliveries working with the R&DP Manager based on historical volume and future need

4 Ensure that empty roll cages are brought back & folded, stored appropriately on the loading bay, meeting H & S requirements

5. Ensure that proof of delivery paperwork is completed and signed in its entirety

6. Store PPE paperwork effectively to support R&DP Manager in forecasting

7. Collecting empty roll cages from main hospital street and all corridors in order to maintain clear corridors pathways

8. Collection of returns from departments as required

9. Review stock levels at North Block out of hours store and deliver additional stock as required, keeping clear & accurate records of stock movement between the main store and North block

10. Liaise with national PPE provider regarding deliveries and issues check delivery, count and record

11. Liaise with Trust colleagues to resolve issues raised with deliveries or redirect other queries as appropriate

12. Reporting any issues with stock or shortages to departments as required

13. To action all associated documentation, carry out clerical work and maintain all essential records as directed.

14. Operate mechanical handling aids and equipment, reporting any defects or deficiencies promptly.

15. Work in a tidy manner, keeping all working areas clean and tidy

including the loading bay.

16. As directed carry out stock-taking duties including stock rotation, reporting any discrepancies and assisting with subsequent investigation.

17. Assist in maintaining high standards of security within the Receipts and Distribution Point both in terms of staff and goods.

18. To distribute stock and non-stock items around Trust sites, using both manual and electrically powered handling equipment.

19. Participate in all mandatory and other appropriate training

sessions arranged.

20. Perform help desk duties and handle relevant enquiries ensuring

feedback is provided to customers

21. Operate within the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Professional Code of Ethics.

22. Access Trust systems including Email and computer drives to access and retrieve applicable communications / documents required for action

23. Ensure PPE deliveries documented effectively to support national reporting process

24. Provide cover for RDP Operative role as required
