Job summary

This role offers an excellent opportunity for a registered Pharmacy Technician eager to broaden their experience and enhance their expertise in quality improvement, patient safety, and governance.

As a Pharmacy Technician, you'll play a key role in ensuring the safe and effective use of medicines across the Trust. Working alongside the Pharmacy Medicines Governance and Safety Team, you'll gain experience in audit processes, quality management systems, and quality improvement projects that enhance patient safety.

The post offers a development pathway from Band 4 to Band 5, Responsibilities include providing technical support to wards and departments, overseeing drug storage and stock management, and contributing to safety meetings and reports, with a strong focus on patient safety and effective medicines management.

This varied role combines technical skill with governance responsibilities, making you an integral part of maintaining high standards within pharmacy practice and supporting exceptional patient care.

Main duties of the job

Support the preparation, conduct, and facilitation of audits, contributing to the development of supportive action plans that promote continuous improvement in line with Royal Pharmaceutical Society standards.

Collaborate with the Medicines Governance and Safety Team to maintain a robust quality management system, including managing Q-Pulse accounts, setting up new users, and distributing controlled documents.

Support safe drug storage and stock management, and assist with the maintenance and governance of Patient Group Directions (PGDs).

Support the Trust priority for medicine safety with an initial focus of time critical medications.

Provide support in the absence of senior team members, including preparing meeting papers and acting as secretariat when required.

Ensure accurate documentation, support effective discharge planning, take and update drug histories

Counsel patients on their medicines, support the resolution of medicine-related queries or concerns.

Accurately dispense medicines, manage workload effectively, support the training and induction of new staff members, and work towards gaining an accuracy checking qualification if not already achieved.

Upholding good pharmaceutical practice, ensuring regulatory compliance, and engaging in continuous professional development.

This role is essential for maintaining high pharmacy service standards, ensuring patient safety, and contributing to the Trust's overall objectives.

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent AND BTEC National Certificate in Pharmacy services

  • Evidence of CPD
  • An understanding of the functions of the following organisations: MHRA, CQC, RPS
  • An understanding of incident reporting and risk management systems e.g. Datix

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a hospital setting

  • Experience of minute taking
  • Evidence of completing team leading training
  • An understanding of incident reporting and risk management systems e.g. Datix
  • An understanding of clinical audit and experience of completing audits alongside others.
