Trust Doctor (non-training) Level 2 (Registrar) in Cardiology

Job summary
The post holder will be joining a large DGH clinical Cardiology team, which covers all sub-specialties within Cardiology apart from surgery (performed at the Heart & Lung Centre in Wolverhampton), and will be expected to contribute to the service provision of the department, according to a departmental middle grade rota for on-call cardiology and out-patient duties and investigative services. The post holder will have involvement in at least 3 clinic sessions per week and in addition attend echo/catheter/ myocardial perfusion imaging/ pacing sessions, training and contributing as appropriate. Ward rounds are organised by the Consultant on-call for the week. They will also supervise the FY1, FY2, CMT, and ACCS ward junior doctors under supervision of the on-call Cardiology consultant when on call and review inpatient referrals from other specialities. The attendance at weekly CPD sessions and involvement in teaching junior doctors and medical students is also expected. The department holds a Tuesday lunchtime educational/ MDT meeting in the Dudley Clinical Education Centre.
Main duties of the job
- Demonstrate interest in the care of patients and the specialty, within the multidisciplinary team set up and an agreed job plan.
- Use to their maximum the educational opportunities, including the teaching ward round, outpatient clinics, and interaction with other health professionals, journal clubs, x-ray and educational meetings.
- Respect the opinion of all professionals allied to medicine.
- Perform their clinical duties with interest and respect to the patients and to permanent staff; take a history paying attention to the "special" requirements of the specialty, examine patients fully and help with their management on a day to day basis by liaising with other staff, updating patients' notes and being aware of any investigation results.
- Giving us feedback about how we can improve their training further, and we will counsel regarding feasibility of further training in Cardiology.
- Help supervise FY1, FY2, CMT, ACCS junior doctors.
- Be involved in Departmental Administration as required in association with their clinical activity
- Help and contribute directly if appropriate, and depending upon fulfilment of required clinical duties, to the research efforts of the department.
- Be actively involved in multidisciplinary audit as appropriate to national and local requirements
- There may also be a requirement to undertake other similar duties as part of this post in order to provide a quality service. These will be consistent with the level of responsibilities outlined above.
