Job summary
The Nursing Associate (NA) has a breadth of knowledge across the lifespan and across the fields of nursing, providing holistic and person-centred care and support for people of all ages and in a variety of settings.
The Nursing Associate works independently under the leadership of registered nurses or GPs. NAs are equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes, and behaviours relevant to employment as a Nursing Associate and will work to a nationally recognised code of conduct.
Main duties of the job
With the appropriate training and in accordance with identified procedures, undertake the following:
Venepuncture
Blood pressure recording (including ambulatory)
Urinalysis
Assistance with minor surgery, Coil and Implant as requested by GP/Practice Nurse
ECG application and recording
Carry out ear examination and syringing
Undertake wound care/ management/dressing techniques.
Influenza /Shingles/B12 immunisations
Provide review clinics for patients with Long Term Condition Clinics including creating and updating care plans
Assist GPs e.g. with minor surgery and family planning clinics
Cervical Smears
Fitting and Removal of Ring Pessary
NHS Health checks
Suture and Clip removal

An exciting opportunity has become available for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Nursing Associate to join the Dudley and Netherton/ Brierley Hill & Amblecote Primary Care Network in a new housebound team service that will be developed as it progresses.
The Nursing Associate (NA) has a breadth of knowledge across the lifespan and across the fields of nursing, providing holistic and person-centred care and support for people of all ages and in a variety of settings.
The nursing associate works independently under the leadership of registered nurses or GPs. NAs are equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes, and behaviours relevant to employment as a Nursing Associate and will work to a nationally recognised code of conduct.
As the Housebound NA, you will be trained to contribute to most aspects of general practice nursing providing hands-on person-centred care, working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
The main duties of the Housebound NA will be to develop a good working relationship with practices within the PCN and work alongside other Nursing Associates and Care Coordinator in the team.
Provide visits to housebound patients for completion of long-term condition reviews, supporting vaccination programmes, phlebotomy, and other general practice workstreams. Prioritising the needs of patients accordingly as a housebound team and making any necessary referrals for investigations in the appropriate manner. Therefore, the candidate must hold a UK driving licence with a car for business purposes insurance.
The post holder will use skills, knowledge and competencies as a qualified Nurse Associate in order to be responsible and accountable for managing patient caseloads.
Responsibilities
Provide continuing care to housebound patients across the PCNs Populations
Monitoring and support of the management of housebound patients with long-term conditions / chronic diseases, using a holistic patient centred approach
Support the co-ordination and management of house bound patient cohorts to ensure they receive the appropriate level of care and that indicators such as QOF are achieved
Recognise and work within own competence and professional code of conduct as regulated by the NMC
Work with MDT members and attend CPT (community partnership team meetings) when required.
Implement and participate in vaccination and immunisation programmes for adults.
Provide nursing treatment to patients using agreed protocols, including the taking of cervical smears within practices.
Provide general and specific health screening to practice patients (within the agreed protocols) with referral to general practitioners, as necessary.
Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles and apply principles of self-care.
Utilise and demonstrate sensitive communication styles, to ensure patients are fully informed and consent to treatment
Produce accurate, contemporaneous, and complete records of patient consultation, consistent with legislation, policies, and procedures.
Prioritise, organise, and manage own workload in a manner that maintains and promotes quality.
Prioritise own workload and ensure effective time-management strategies are embedded within the culture of the team.
Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded adequately on the computer.
