Job summary
This post will help address the Trust's diagnostic and treatment targets in out-patient, inpatientand endoscopy services, and help enhance our capacity for the anticipatedexpansion in endoscopy services over the next few years. If appropriate the job plan of thepost-holder may be configured to accommodate any other subspecialist expertise.
The post holder should have MRCP and demonstrate entry onto the GMC specialistregister with CCT (or within 6 months of it at interview) or CESR. They would contribute tothe general gastroenterological workload including diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy,in addition to a small caseload of the general medicine. A research interest with evidence ofpublications is desirable as is a post graduate degree.
There is a normal working week in between the outlier and CoW week. Consultants will begiven 2 rest days in the week after CoW duties are completed (Monday and Friday).
Gastroenterology consultants do not take part in the GIM oncall rota, however are expected to manage GIM patients on the ward.
Main duties of the job
- Two outpatient clinics per week will be held; either at Russells Hall Hospital or a peripheralclinic (Corbett or Guest hospital)
- Ward work includes supervision of between 36 inpatients during consultant of week cover,supported by at least 3 juniors at FY, IMT and SpR grade.
- The appointee will be expected to contribute to endoscopy unit audit projects
- The duties will include Saturday / Sunday/ Bank holiday ward rounds when on call. Therewill be two rest days off (Monday and Friday) following a weekend of working.
- The post holder will be required to participate in Gastroenterology/Endoscopy on-call rota.Depending on the number of successful applicants this rota with either consist of a 1 in 9 or1 in 10 basis and is paid at category B level, which currently attracts a supplement of 3%.
