Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an apprentice podiatrist to join our innovative and dynamic Podiatry Service, which provides high quality Podiatry Services to patients within the community across the Dudley Borough.
This post is suitable for anyone interested in becoming a qualified podiatrist by working in the podiatry service whilst studying a funded degree apprenticeship.
The post holder must have the entry requirement for the degree apprenticeship, including GCSE Maths and English at grade C /4 or above (see person specification for further details).
The apprenticeship provider will either be Wolverhampton University or Plymouth University (online learning). This will be confirmed closer to the time.
This post willcommence as a Band 3 working in the Podiatry Department until starting the degree apprenticeship in September 2025. You will then be transferred onto the Band 5 annex 21 pay scale and work in a Band 4 role as an Apprentice Podiatrist. On completion of the degree apprenticeship and HCPC registration you will be moved into a Band 5 role.
You must be willing to learn, be empathetic, caring and able to study for a degree apprenticeship.
The Podiatry Service provides an opportunity for the candidate to work within a diverse team which provides a range of services throughout the borough, with good learning opportunities from highly skilled experienced staff.
You will be expected to travel across the Dudley Borough.
Main duties of the job
To assess, diagnose,develop and implement individualised podiatric care plans for patients with a variety of clinical needs, including chronic long -term conditions, i.e. diabetes, rheumatological, and vascular conditions and wound management.
The post holder will also be expected to plan, organise and manage a caseload for these patients including musculoskeletal conditions providing care and the delivery of podiatry treatment. And would be expected to report any issues and refer complex patients to the Band 6 Podiatrist or the Podiatry Team Leader/Specialist lead.
The post holder will participate in a mentored rotational programme of specialist clinics to gain further knowledge in these fields.
- To operate autonomously in the delivery of high quality foot care as part of a team and to deliver care as a lone worker in domiciliary settings.
- Using motivation and empowerment skills toenter into partnerships of care and achieve goals with patients.
- Negotiate with patientsregarding transfer of their care to other professionals, carers and family.
- Overcome barriers to communication, breakingbad news and dealing with sensitive information.
