Specialty Doctor in Rheumatology

Job summary

The post holder will be joining one of the largest and busiest rheumatology teams in the West Midlands. This post is for 1 PA per week within the osteoporosis service. The osteoporosis service is led by Consultant Rheumatologist Dr Feryal Malik, supported by Specialist Doctor Dr Jennie Marwick, research pharmacist Yunzheng Jiao and CNS Natalie Mitchell. DEXA scans are reported by rheumatologists, namely, Prof Whallett, Dr Malik and Dr Marwick. This PA is to see new patient referrals in clinic, supported by the osteoporosis team.

Main duties of the job

  1. Demonstrate interest in the care of patients and the specialty, within the multidisciplinary team set up and an agreed job plan.
  2. Respect the opinion of all professionals allied to medicine.
  3. Perform their clinical duties with interest and respect to the patients and to permanent staff; take a history paying attention to the "special" requirements of the specialty, examine patients fully and help with their management on a day to day basis by liaising with other staff, updating patients' notes and being aware of any investigation results.
  4. Be involved in departmental administration.
  5. Help and contribute directly to the research efforts of the department, as appropriate
  6. Support multidisciplinary audit.

There may also be a requirement to undertake other similar duties as part of this post in order to provide a quality service. These will be consistent with the level of responsibilities outlined above.

Essential

  • oDegree from a recognized university
  • oCompleted at least 4 years full time postgraduate training (or it's equivalent if part time) at least 2 of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or shall have equivalent experience and competencies
  • oFull GMC registration with licence to practice
  • oUp-to-date knowledge of clinical issues related to Rheumatology.
