Deputy Chief Operating Officer

Following the promotion of the current postholder, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced operational manager to support the Chief Operating Officer in the delivery of high-quality services delivering outstanding patient care. This post would suit someone who is currently working at a Divisional Management level in similar organisation or who similar operational background, who would like to take on a more corporate role leading on performance and capacity and flow as well as key trust wide improvements projects such as Discharge, Outpatient Transformation and Urgent Care.
The post holder line manages the Associate Director of Performance and the Head Capacity and Site and will work closely with the Divisional Directors of Operations to deliver the transformation and improvement agenda. For the right candidate with the right experience there will also be an opportunity to provide day to day line management of the three Divisional Directors of Operations on behalf of the Chief Operating Officer.

Main duties of the job
The Deputy Chief Operating Officer supports, and delegates for the Chief Operating Officer to ensure daily and ongoing operational delivery according to the Trusts operational plan and strategic intent. They will lead delivery of high quality clinical services and co-ordinate effective day to day performance management across Care Groups. The role has three main functions:o To lead a portfolio of individual responsibilities on behalf of the Chief Operating Officer, providing effective leadership and support to all staff within the team.o To contribute, as the deputy of the Chief Operating Officer, to the wider corporate leadership of the Trust including the operational support to and performance management of services delivered by the Clinical Directorates of the Trust.o To deputise, as required, on behalf of the Chief Operating Officer.

Essential
- Educated to degree level or evidence of extensive and directly relevant acute health sector operational management at a senior level
- Masters' degree relevant to the role or equivalent experience
- Further evidence of management/leadership training and continuous professional development
- Relevant Postgraduate qualification in a management discipline
Knowledge and Training
Essential
- High degree of political sensitivity and experience of dealing with a range of issues in a complex stakeholder environment
- Strong commercial and business acumen and judgment, understanding the need for efficient services and the impact of operational efficiencies on financial performance, the patient experience and staff motivation and morale

- Extensive experience at a senior level in a complex environment, including a sound understanding of the performance and governance requirements of the NHS for acute Trusts
