Walnut is one of the busiest SCUs in the country with 22 cots, three of which are currently designated as high dependency and four as transitional care. Our birth rate is rising and approaching 5000 deliveries per year.
We are seeking experienced and passionate neonatal nurses who have completed their qualified in specialty training. Applications will also be considered from experienced and committed neonatal nurses who are willing to undertake training within a given time frame.
You will be well supported in your role by a senior nursing team of clinically based Band 7 Senior Sisters and a Practice Development Nurse. We also have a senior nurses working in research, infant feeding, FI care and governance.
We have eighteen Paediatric Consultants in post, two of whom take the lead for the Neonatal Unit. In addition the service is supported by a leading Neonatal Outreach service.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for the evidence based assessment of care needs, the development of programmes of care, the implementation and evaluation of those programmes of care. The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without supervision, and to assist with training, supervision and mentorship of qualified and unqualified staff, under the guidance of senior colleagues.
The post holder will need to communicate effectively with and work alongside all members of the multi professional team, children and their families to promote and support the evidence based development of nursing practice. Work in partnership with Ward sisters and ChargeNurses of each area, Senior Nurse and General Manager in order to facilitate practice development.
