The Microbiology Department at Darent Valley hospital is seeking to appoint an energetic, well-motivated, HCPC registered individual with experience of working in an NHS Pathology laboratory.
The laboratory is well developed within bacteriology, Serology and Molecular techniques housing a range of Microbiology analysers,including Vitek 2 , Cobas 480, Microscan and Maldi-Tof ID , Genexpert, Virtuo analyser, DS2, Vidas and Liaison XLs.
Successful applicants will be expected to participate in maintaining CPD , complete registration Portfolio and support laboratory to maintainrequirements of United Kingdom Accreditation Standards (UKAS).

Main duties of the job
All applicants will work in a rotation with other staff in all sections within the laboratory. You must be keen to embrace new ways of working and develop your skills and knowledge.
All applicants will be provided with a 16-week roster following successful probation. This will include early and late shifts and allocated rest daysfor weekends worked. You will be expected to work according to our working time compliant shift system. The successful applicant will be required to participate in out of hours or On-call shifts when fully competent following training. There is a requirement for flexibility of your working pattern and an extended working day shift may be required.

Perform various analytical procedures for which appropriate training will be provided in accordance with agreed standard operating procedures
Complete tasks efficiently and effectively in an appropriate time period, ensuring that turnaround times for tests are met
Use and maintain the integrity of the Laboratory Information System
Deal with samples and results with appropriate priority
Deliver accurate and timely results of samples, according to priority
Assist the senior staff and Specialist Biomedical Scientists in supervising and directing the routine work of a section(s)
Allocate junior staff within the section to cover the required duties
Analyse, interpret and report results from patient specimens and proceeding accordingly
Perform complex tests within a variety of Molecular PCR laboratory techniques including: Setting up PCR assays, DNA/RNA extraction, DNA quantification, PCR, primer design, DNA sequencing and other molecular testing methods in accordance with standard operational procedures
Perform Molecular processes and supporting rapid diagnostic testing and point of care (POCT) testing when required.
