This role is open to all internal staff and Kent and Medway Partnership Network Pathology staff, including those registered with our Staff Bank
North Kent Pathology Service is a joint venture between Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust and Medway Foundation NHS Trust and the post holder may be required to undertake duties at any location across North Kent Pathology Service in order to meet service needs.
The post holder will provide operational leadership and management to staff across the Blood Transfusion or Haematology services at both Darent Valley and Medway Maritime hospital sites.
They will provide leadership for service transformation, the implementation of operational and clinical innovations for the Department. They will provide line management to the Biomedical Scientists (BMS) and Health Care Support Workers (HSSWs) as well as overall management for all staff within the aligned service.
The post holder will ensure that the service runs smoothly and efficiently over the 24-hour period, ensuring the adoption and alignment to national guidance and local pathways processes and protocols. This includes drafting, implementing and reviewing departmental policies and guidelines.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide operational leadership and management to staff across the Blood Transfusion services at both Darent Valley and Medway Maritime hospital sites.
They will provide leadership for service transformation, the implementation of operational and clinical innovations for the Department. They will provide line management to the Biomedical Scientists (BMS), Health Care Support Workers (HSSWs) and Transfusion Practitioner (TP) as well as overall management for all staff within the aligned service.
They will participate in drafting, implementing and reviewing departmental policies and guidelines., ensure that the service runs smoothly and efficiently over the 24-hour period, ensure the adoption and alignment to national guidance and local pathways processes and protocols and that the service adheres to the quality standards as set out within the QMS/ Quality Manual and NKPS annual plans.

- FIBMS or MSc in Blood Transfusion or equivalent.
- State Registered with the Health Professions Council.
- Extensive post registration experience at a senior level with demonstrable relevant experience at a management level
- Evidence of CPD and post graduate training in specialised areas
Desirable
- Diploma in Management Studies or similar, current management qualification.
- Willingness to undertake management qualification.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Extensive knowledge of all aspects of the Blood Transfusion laboratory
- Knowledge of current trends in Blood Transfusion and the requirements of UKAS
