Job summary

We are seeking Theatre Practitioners to work within our theatres across a wide variety of specialties. Previous anaesthetic experience is a essential for this post. It is essential that you hold the UK qualification or equivalent conversion to the UK requirements.

We are looking for enthusiastic Operating Department Practitioners to join our dynamic workforce. Previous anaesthetic and recover experience is essential, additionally we provide a comprehensive mentorship package for newly qualified Operating Department Practitioners.

You will need to be able to demonstrate good communication skills and working with the multidisciplinary team, with an understanding of all integrated governance requirements of the theatre environment.

As a practitioner you will be a role model and advocate for the Trust's values and participate in any developments within the Trust and within national guidelines relating to your specialty or theatre environment.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will work in Queen Marys Hospital, Theatres and has responsibility for the assessment and development of programmes of care, including monitoring standards of care. In addition, the post holder carries responsibility for deployment, supervision and teaching of multidisciplinary clinical staff and learners.

Assisting both the Anaesthetist and participating within the Multidisciplinary team.

To provide expert, holistic care of a high standard to both perioperative patients and their relatives whilst they are under the care of Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust.

To take direct responsibility for the clinical area in the absence of or as delegated by the Departmental Coordinator or Clinical leader.

To assist in the leadership and development of an identified group of practitioners within the Unit complement.

To act as a clinical resource within the Unit and across the Division as necessary.

To act as a positive role model to junior staff members.

Participating in "on-call" rotas or cross site working if necessary. Carry out other duties, as may be required by Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust which fall within the grading of the post.

Clinical Responsibilities

Ensure that the agreed standards of care are maintained at optimum level, informing the unit manager of any concerns.

Assist with the organisation of the reception and discharge of patients, ensuring that they receive safe and competent care during the immediate and post-operative period.

Act as a resource/advisor to junior healthcare / support workers and students in the delivery of research based programmes of care, ensuring the appropriate teaching, assessment, planning and evaluation is undertaken.

To ensure that all patient documentation is completed and kept up-to-date, and that care plans provide an accurate progress record and response to treatment.

Assists with accidents and incidents involving patients, staff relatives and visitors. Completes statements and incident forms and reports such incidents and accidents appropriately and in a timely manner.

Participates in the Quality Assurance tool within the Critical Care Directorate.

Provide skilled high quality Peri-operative care to all patient groups.

Assist in ensuring that all patients are safe to be transferred back to ward areas, in accordance with the recovery area protocol.

Provide skilled high quality assistance to the anaesthetist.
