Job summary

We are seeking staff to join our team as Maternity Support Workers. This role is at the frontline of a family's journey through pregnancy, childbirth and the first few days of birth.

Full time or part time hours are available

Main duties of the job

Maternity Support Workers provide direct delivery of clinical care to all women and babies accessing maternity services Under the direction of the midwife; they will manage their own time effectively whilst prioritising the care needs of the women and their babies.

The post is rotational and the employee will be provided with appropriate training for the clinical setting in which they are working. These settings include antenatal, postnatal and intrapartum inpatient care. They will also be required to undertake routine clerical duties, completing Trust documentation relevant to the department.

Person Specification

Education and Training

Essential

  • oGCSE Maths and English Grades A-C, Levels 4-9, Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent
  • oCommitment to undertake completion of Care Certificate

Desirable

  • oNVQ level 3 in health care
  • oRCM "maternity support worker course- Preparation to care: Fit for Practice.
  • oEvidence of CPD

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • oExcellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • oAbility to work with minimum supervision and on own initiative
  • oIT literate

Desirable

  • oAbility to perform venepuncture
  • oHave updated knowledge in Breastfeeding support
  • oKnowledge of child protection, domestic violence, substance misuse and working with women with special needs

Experience

  • oPrevious experience of working within a maternity setting
  • oPrevious experience as a Healthcare Support Worker
  • oExperience of providing personal care, for example care for pressure areas, hair, nails and oral hygiene
