Job summary
The Endoscopy Decontamination Manager is defined as the person designated by Endoscopy to be responsible for the management of the decontamination of flexible endoscope process in Endoscopy on both sites.
The post holder is responsible for line management of all decontamination operators and is the designated subject matter expert for decontamination for the endoscopy service at DGT.
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that the Endoscopy decontamination services are delivered in line with all HTM (Health Technical Memoranda) 01 - 06 and be knowledgeable with all legislative and NHS regulations. The responsible for recruiting decontamination staff and ensuring Decontamination operators are trained to an appropriate level to carry out their duties safely and effectively.
The post holder is responsible for decontamination services on a day to day basis, ensuring a high quality service, and ensuring that the flow of endoscopes meets the needs of the Endoscopy service.
The EDM will undertake a yearly re-validation course for example courses offered by Eastwood Park to ensure skills are at the highest level with all new decontamination processes. The EDM will network across the sector to gain experience on best practice in other decontamination services and bring knowledge and expertise to the Trust to improve decontamination processes.
Main duties of the job
To have knowledge regarding the IHEEM audit and to develop working relationships with the AE(D) (Authorising Engineer for Decontamination)
Ensure that there is a COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) risk assessment completed with the Senior Sisters for Endoscopy.
Ensure and manage that external and internal engineers have access to the Endoscopy Department and to ensure there are controls in place to access the Endoscopy Units eg 'permits to work'.
Responsible for the weekly test including weekly safety checks, carry out daily test, process challenge device cleaning efficacy test, water Hardness, water conductivity and final rinse-water supply - TVC.
Ensure that all staff adhere to PPE for staff working in the decontamination area but also ensure internal and external engineers who work on the EWD machines for maintenance and testing are adhering to PPE guidance at all times.
Line manage Endoscopy Decontamination team including training, JETS competency assessments, appraisals, statutory and mandatory training and absence management. To refer team members as required to Occupational Health or Well Being Team.
Attend and prepare report for EUG and prepare report for Decontamination Steering Group Committee meetings
