Job summary
Do you want to be a part of an exciting and dynamic Neonatal Team? We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and forward thinking Neonatal Speech and Language Therapist at Darent Valley Hospital for our Special Care Baby Unit to help form a new MDT team and develop a new speech and language therapy provision for neonates within the hospital. Alongside this new post we have also acquired funding for neonatal occupational therapy, physiotherapy and dietetics.
The hospital is situated near South-East London with good transport links, where an additional 5% high cost of living allowance applies. We currently have 18 cots on the neonatal unit, 3 of which are HDU. In addition to this we staff 4 transitional care cots. This post has come about from a neonatal AHP business case and is funded to the RCSLT staffing recommendations. We are in the process of business planning to become an LNU and have a supportive Neonatal Matron and a Team of Senior nurses including PDN & Research nurses. We are part of a large Neonatal workforce which includes Neonatal Outreach, Neonatal/Paediatric Consultants and AHPs. We have had excellent recent feedback from GIRFT and PEER review; we have been awarded Silver Bliss accreditation and are working towards BFI status.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be a senior clinician with specialist experience, leading and developing a new service for speech and language therapy on the neonatal unit. The post holder will work primarily on the Special Care Baby Unit. They would provide specialist SLT management for babies and their families, inputting into both the acute and developmental follow-up services. The post holder will be an active member of the multidisciplinary team on the unit and will contribute to service development and training. They would receive line management from the unit and SLT Leads and peer support from other medical, nursing and AHP professionals. The post holder will also be able to access support from the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Neonatal ODN including Neonatal SLT forums and peer supervision with neonatal SLTs across the region.
